Llanos

The Llanos are the low-lying plains in the Ornico Basin. They take up â…“ of Venezuela’s national territory and run from the Andes to the Atlantic. The Llanos are approximately 600 miles long and 200 miles wide and are mostly covered by a mixture of wooded scrub and savanna. The Llanos are bounded on the north by coastal mountains and on the south by the Guiana Highlands. The climate is divided into 2 parts, a rainy season from roughly April to November and a dry season from November to April. The rainy season causes intense flooding driving all animals to the north. The dry season causes severe drought where all animals are driven to the Ornico River. The human population is sparse due to  drought and flooding, extreme heat, abundance of insects, and disease
