Angel Falls
Angel Falls is a waterfall located inside the Canaima National Park. The park is in the Guiana Highlands in the Bolivar Regin. The Falls come from a tributary, the Churun River plunges 3,212 ft creating the highest waterfall in the world. The Falls are 500 ft wide at its base. Unlike other huge cataracts, Angel Falls water dissipates into a fine mist casting off rainbows along the drop. The Churun River falls over a flat plateau called the Auyán-Tepuí hardly making contact. Because of its location in the Canaima National Park, the falls are best seen from the sky due to the thick jungle. The Falls are named after aviator James Crawford Angel who in 1935 got stuck at the top of the Falls and had to hike 11 days to get down. The Falls were soon named after Angel and he became a hero for discovering it. In 1994 Canaima National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Angel Falls is one of the top tourist attractions in Venezuela and take helicopter tours or hikes to see the beautiful waters.
